Wacker Plate Ongar

Wacker Plates for Professionals or DIY Work in Ongar

A Wacker Plate or Plate Compactor is an extremely handy piece of plant equipment to have, where underground pipework or foundation installation is involved. The soil in the immediate area needs to be properly compacted to a certain level. This is an important step, especially if constructions are to be built on the particular ground. They are also useful for preparation of ground for drives and public pathways. Using a wacker plate can ensure there are no problems with foundations later which can affect the whole project.

The term ‘wacker’ is commonly used onsite to describe these compaction plates, and is appropriate, as that is how they work. They use an impressive force to hammer or pound the material which is then packed, firm and stable. Compact, they are ideal when working on backfills for narrow trenches or in confined spaces.

Vibrating wacker plates are second to none when it comes to levelling and compacting the ground. Smooth the ground first using a wide toothed rake to get the best results from the wacker plate. This ensures that the compactor has a straight run with no hold ups here and there. It is wise too, when using these machines, to wear the correct safety gear. This includes ear plugs, safety glasses, steel toed boots and work gloves, you may also want to wear a safety helmet.

Wacker plates may be operated by: –

  • Starting at the edge of the area in question, use one hand to hold the handle and the other to turn it on.
  • Push the machine forward slowly, until you reach the opposite edge.
  • Turn the machine 180º and push back in the other direction alongside to the strip you just did.
  • Repeat these steps until the total area is compacted then turn off the machine.
  • Place the wacker plate at a perpendicular angle to the first lot of strips.
  • Go over the whole area back and forth covering the previously worked on ground.
