There is excitement within the construction industry at the moment, as Korean manufacturer Doosan Infracore launches its ‘transparent bucket’ system for wheeled loaders. This innovation is a first in the industry, and demonstrates how the sector has embraced the idea of technical developments. The bucket itself isn’t actually see-through, but a clever system of cameras relays images to the driver. The images inform the driver about whatever is in front of the shovel bucket, normally a dangerous blind spot.
Images are recorded focusing on the front of the wheeled loader, by top and bottom front-loaded cameras. They are then combined and shown on the cab monitor in real time using curved projection. As well as the safety benefits provided by enhanced visuals, there may also be benefits where productivity is concerned. Other features include a view monitor [AVM] system, showing 360 – degree images around the vehicle, and a warning system at the rear that relies on ultrasonic sensors.
Doosan Infracore claims to be the first company in the world to develop and apply this product, and has applied for patents in Korea, Europe, North America and China. A spokesperson for Doosan Infracore said: “As machinery and site safety standards continue to be significantly raised around the world, advanced safety systems have become a key factor in selecting equipment. We plan to continue developing safety features that can protect drivers and other workers on site, and we aim to be at the forefront in creating construction sites that are safer and accident-free”.
