Heavy & Small Plant for Hire at Reasonable Prices, Access Tools & Equipment for Contractors or DIYers
If you are a skilled brickie, electrician, plumber or decorator you are likely to have your own favourite collection of tools. These will suffice most of the time, but there will probably be jobs that require more specialist tools. You can’t be expected to have every piece of equipment you will possibly need on hand. A project may call for floor preparation machinery, sanders, concrete breakers, masonry hammer drills, wallpaper strippers or portable lighting. It’s tempting to go ahead and purchase that shiny new tool, but would hiring be a better option?
Hire tools are usually top of the range, manufactured by the biggest brands, as they are used repeatedly. They have to be able to perform efficiently and to their best ability time and time again. So buying your own high quality version will set you back a fair amount, unless you opt for a cheaper, less reliable make. If you choose the finance route such as monthly payments, you will end up paying much more while the tool sits gathering dust.
Expensive tools bring their own set of problems too, such as where to store them safely and securely. They aren’t safe left in a van overnight, as many tradespeople have discovered to their frustration. Sheds are a big ‘no no’ too as they are a major target for thieves these days. You could of course keep them in your home, but is there room? According to the Federation of Master Builders, over 80% of construction workers in the UK have had tools stolen in the last 10 years. The losses average out at around £2,500 per robbery, but 10% were relieved of over £10,000 worth of tools and equipment! Customers in places like North London may be understanding when things like this happen, but at the end of the day they want their job done as soon as possible.
There are also issues like keeping tools clean and maintained, which can take a bit of time, so when push comes to shove, hiring is the way to go!
