A major new 10m retail park development is in the pipeline for Loughton, Essex, converting land which was used as a lorry park and depot. The scheme will see 15 retail units built on almost 13,000 sq m of land south of Debden station. The area will be called Epping Forest Shopping Park, and will get underway soon after a 5 year delay while a new site was found for the existing depot. The plans will also have to include parking space provision for 366 cars and 44 cycles.
A bit of historical information about Loughton goes along the lines of Lopping Hall, a prominent building being constructed in the centre of the high road in1884. It is notable due to the resistance of a local family, the Willingales, to the enclosure by the Lord of the Manor, of Epping Forest. They managed to hold off the action for a time before the City of London won the right to preserve the forest. Part of the compensation attained was used to build Lopping Hall on Loughton High Road.
