There are several building developments taking place in Ongar, part of Epping Forest District, Essex. This part of Essex is famous for its wealth of local facilities and rich history in addition to its impressive transport links. However, plans to develop 24 houses and apartments with car parking and cycling facilities on Ongar Road have been scuppered. Apparently an ecological report identified trees with ‘moderate levels of bat roosting potential’ and identification of an active badger set. These creatures are both protected by the law, thus planning permission is expected to be significantly delayed.
Ongar sits within the Epping Forest area, and the local District Council have tried a practical approach to the issue of homelessness. The trial project has seen the conversion of four shipping containers into affordable housing units. The scheme will provide temporary homes and storage in the form of ‘pods’, which consist of studios or one bed homes.
