A very strange offer appeared yesterday on the social platform Twitter. It said,“To mark National Pothole Day today, we want you to help us find Britain’s three worst potholes…. and we’ll come to fix them with our brand new PotholePro machine!” It’s likely that the poster will be inundated from all corners, as people think about their local ‘pain in the neck’ potholes.
The tweet was made by a company who are no strangers to providing powerful plant solutions, namely JCB. The well known Staffordshire based company manufacture diggers and have an enviable reputation for quality and high performance. But can they rise to the challenge of ridding us of this national scourge. They certainly seem confident, claiming that their new machine can deal with even the most troublesome pothole in less that 8 minutes. This is four times faster than current methods, and even halves the cost.
The PotholePro machine was recently unveiled and promises to solve one of the biggest issues throughout the country. First tests demonstrated road repairs at incredible speeds, as 51 repairs were carried out in just 20 days. Normally, this would take up to 6 workers 63 days to complete.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak, made a vow last November that he would invest £1.6bn to fix potholes in Britain. This followed shocking figures revealed by the AA showing that the UK had over £11bn-worth of potholes that needed repairing.
JCB chairman Lord Bamford personally led the development of the innovative piece of kit, and said “Potholes really are the scourge of our nation. Our country is quite rightly fixated on this dreadful problem and as a British manufacturer I am fixated on finding a solution.
“We simply cannot allow our road network to continue to be blighted by potholes.
“JCB’s solution is simple and cost effective and fixes potholes permanently, first time. Once the machine has done its job all the contractor then needs to do is just add tar.”
