red tapeWhen countries are going through a challenging time such as recession or economic downturns, governments tend to look to the construction industry. This is the case time and again, and it is happening at this moment too, as it’s hoped the sector will bring the economy back to life. There are serious efforts to lift red tape for those planning developments, and an easier route for people wanting to buy homes. There is an increased willingness to support infrastructure projects nationwide, and new opportunities within the industry.

In 2020 the government announced a reduction in red tape, in order to deliver more homes that fit the character of their location. New rules were introduced, in which abandoned residential or commercial buildings could be repurposed with less hassle. This cuts out the need to demolish and rebuild, a practice which had become the norm. Not only will this raise the profile of areas, but it will provide much needed extra space for new businesses.

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said ”We are reforming the planning system and cutting out unnecessary bureaucracy to give small business owners the freedom they need to adapt and evolve, and to renew our town centres with new enterprises and more housing.

“These changes will help transform boarded up, unused buildings safely into high quality homes at the heart of their communities. “It will mean that families can add up to two storeys to their home, providing much needed additional space for children or elderly relatives as their household grows.”

The pandemic has forced inevitable changes in the way we live too, people increasingly desire bigger homes with gardens. This is because there is less emphasis on travelling into town centres and business areas. Even down the line, things are unlikely to return to the way they were. It’s going to be a busy time for construction companies, developers and plant hire specialists.
