But it’s in ease of use that this device really comes into its own. It comes with a number of manoeuvrability options, including handlebars for pushing and wheels for easy movement.

The Story Behind Concordia Academy’s Unusual And Interesting Construction

Back in 2017, it was announced that the buildings for the Concordia Academy in Romford were set to be built by the firm McAvoy.

The contract for the work had a value of just over £8 million, and it centred on the new free school which is located on Union Road close to the centre of the town and the railway station. But from a construction point of view, the interesting thing about the new site was that it was designed and created offsite thanks to a building technique known as “modular construction”.

This plan was chosen because the area around Union Road is a brownfield site, which means that there are significant regulations in place about the nature of any construction work which takes place there. Modular construction is a way of managing this barrier.

The school itself, which will cater to primary-aged students, is a free school which is being run by the REAch2 Academy Trust. The funding to cover the development of the school came from the Education and Skills Funding Agency, and ultimately from the Department for Education.

The building is large, and covers a space of 2,972 square metres.

McAvoy, which ensured that Concordia Academy had a number of interim buildings before the main ones arrived, was the principal contractor on the job.

A spokesperson for McAvoy described the technology being used as “the latest advances” in the field.

“We are delighted to be building this wonderful new school which will provide much needed primary school places for the local community in Romford,” said Raymond Millar, who is Construction Director at McAvoy.

“We will be using the latest advances in education design and offsite construction to create an inspiring environment for teaching and learning, and an outstanding school to help every child realise their highest aspirations.”
