Building on Success in Southend

Heavy & Small Plant Hire, High Performance Plant Machinery, Diggers, Dumpers, Skidsteers & Rollers, Southend

Local councils across south Essex have recently pledged to join together in an effort to tackle shortage of housing, lack of jobs and improve infrastructure. The partnership named a ‘joint infrastructure and strategic plan’, is hoped to drive economic growth for the region. Council leaders and chief executives formed ‘the Association of South Essex Local Authorities (ASELA)’, and have agreed to work together in this endeavour.

An award of £871,000 has been granted by the government and Cllr Louise McKinlay, Leader of Brentwood Borough Council and Chair of ASELA, says: “We have the vision and ambition to work collectively and across district borders and we will now work hard to plan on a joint basis for new infrastructure, homes and jobs”. She also made it clear that the association are committed to a ‘joined up approach’ in encouraging job opportunity and supporting new communities.

It’s an exciting time for locations like Southend and Essex in general, as transport links, roads, health, education and jobs are all set to be given a boost over the next 20 years. Also on the agenda, is a £19m expansion of The Forum – the country’s first combined academic and public library. The award-winning building is a joint venture between Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and South Essex College, and will focus on the creative, digital and cultural industries. The initiative is intended to build on Southend’s economy and skill base and provide affordable access to the newest digital arts equipment and will include co-working space, meeting pods, workstations, a seminar room and an editing suite.

Any building project is good news for all, including the construction industry which has seen an emphasis on interest in training in recent years. Construction is now the choice of an increasing number of young people who see a future in design, architecture, surveying, engineering and operation of plant machinery.
